| In Lake Stevens, Washington clean water is one of our most precious natural resources. Yet every time we flush a toilet, pour oil down the drain or clean with strong household chemicals, we contaminate our supply. Before wastewater can be released into our waterways, it must go through a process called sewage treatment to be decontaminated.
Established in 1957 the Lake Stevens Sewer District has been providing sewer service, both collection and treatment, since 1965. LSSD serves a drainage area of over 6,690 acres (5,690 acres outside the city limits, 1000 acres inside) which surrounds Lake Stevens and operates a system composed of 92 miles of collection system and 30 lift stations. In March of 1986 LSSD completed construction of an activated sludge secondary sewage treatment plant with the capacity of 2.38 million gallons per day (mgd). In 2001 the capacity was increased to 4.1 million gallons per day. This site is designed to inform, educate, and support the Districts residential and commercial clients. It also contains links to other helpful resources concerning water, power, the environment, and other issues that affect the quality of life in Lake Stevens. |
